Many international braille tables and refreshable braille displays are supported by iPhone.  A Bluetooth wireless braille display can be connected to read VoiceOver output, including contracted and uncontracted braille and equations using Nemeth Code. Your iPhone can be controlled by braille display with input keys when VoiceOver is turned on.

Go to Settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver > Braille to manage the below settings.

  • Go to Settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver > Braille > Output to set the braille display output. It can be set to uncontracted six-dot, uncontracted eight-dot, or contracted braille.
  • Go to Settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver > Braille > Input to set the braille input method. It can be set to uncontracted six-dot, uncontracted eight-dot, or contracted braille. Automatic Translation also can be turned on. You can also set the input method for entering braille using the screen.
  • You can add more Brille tables that will appear in the Braille table rotor in VoiceOver.
  • Go to Go to Settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver > Braille > Status Cells to Turn on the general and text status cells and set their positions.
  • There are many other Braille settings like Equations use Nemeth Code, Show Onscreen Keyboard, Turn Pages when Panning, or Word Wrap can be turned on as per the need.
  • Enabling Braille Alert Messages will show an alert message for the set duration on your Braille Display. You can also set Ignore Chord Duration and Auto Advance Duration as per your need.
  • You can customize many Braille commands for the connected Braille display device.
