The lake is located in a remote and isolated area, surrounded by snow-capped mountains and glaciers. It is a popular destination for trekkers and hikers, who come to enjoy the stunning natural beauty of the region. The lake is also revered by Buddhists, who consider it to be a sacred site.

Despite its remote location, Gurudongmar Lake is a popular tourist destination, with many visitors coming to see the lake each year. It is accessible by road from the town of Lachung, which is located around 50 kilometers (31 miles) away. The best time to visit the lake is from April to June, when the weather is relatively mild and the roads are open.

The loquat, a member of the Rosaceae family, is indigenous to south-central China's colder  hill regions. The loquat also known as biwa in Japan has been cultivated there for more than a millennium.

Around the world, the loquat has been introduced to areas with subtropical to mild temperate climates.

Since several of the species have an acidic flavor resembling the sorrel proper (Rumex acetosa), which is only distantly related, they are referred regarded as wood sorrels (often spelt "woodsorrels" or "wood-sorrels").  

Instead, some species are known as pink sorrels or yellow sorrels based on the hue of their blossoms. Other species go by the names false shamrocks and sourgrasses in common usage. The term "oxalises" is also used to refer to the entire genus.
