A genus of shrubs in the Myrtaceae family, Callistemon was originally described as a genus in 1814. The entire genus is native to Australia, but it is also commonly farmed in other places and has naturalized in a few isolated places.

Because of their cylindrical, brush-like blooms that resemble classic bottle brushes, Callistemon species are frequently referred to as bottlebrushes. They are mainly found in Australia's temperate regions particularly along the east coast.

Because they typically prefer moist conditions, they do best when planted in gardens where they receive regular irrigation. But there are two species in Tasmania and many more in the southwest of Western Australia.

Some species are employed in ornamental landscaping around the world and at least some are drought-resistant.
