Cilembu sweet potatoes are a specialty of Cilembu village and surrounding areas in West Java, Indonesia (Pamulihan, Tanjungsari, Rancakalong, and Sukasari). It thrives in places with moderate rainfall between 800 and 1000 m above sea level.
In 2001, the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture officially acknowledged it as a natural variety. Sweet potatoes are tall and round, weighing between 0.5 and 2 kg. Five to seven months after sowing, potatoes are harvested.
The flesh of the raw tuber is reddish or light brown, and when cooked, it turns reddish-yellow. Cilembu sweet potatoes have a distinct aroma and wonderful sweet taste when baked, with a syrupy, honey-like coating.
