Milled rice that has had the husk, bran, and germ removed is known as white rice. This improves the rice's flavor, texture, and appearance while also extending the shelf life of the grain and enhancing its digestibility.  

The rice is polished after milling (hulling), creating a seed that is brilliant, white, and shiny. Both the milling and  polishing procedures take nutrients away. Due to a lack of thiamine (vitamin B1), an unbalanced diet heavy in unenriched white rice makes many people susceptible to the neurological condition beriberi.  

Some of the nutrients removed during processing are frequently added back into white rice to make it more nutritious.
