The flowering plant species Mangifera indica, or mango, belongs to the Anacardiaceae family. It is a substantial fruit tree that can reach a height of 30 meters (100 feet).

The mango is a fleshy drupe that has an amorphous, egg-shaped form. Mangos are typically greenish yellow in color and 8 to 12 centimeters (3-5 inches) long. The fruits might have a kidney, heart, oval, or round form. When a mango fruit is unripe, it is green. A sizable, flat pit is located in the center of the bright orange, velvety internal flesh.

Around April and May, mangos are fully ripe. Pickles and chutneys can be made from raw mangos. Mangos that are ripe are a widely consumed fruit. 85% of the mango's weight is made up of the skin and pulp, and the remaining 15% is made up of the stone (seed).
