Joshimath is a town located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand state in India. It is situated at an altitude of 1,890 meters above sea level and serves as the winter seat of the famous shrine of Badrinath. The town is also a popular base for treks to the Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib.

Joshimath is an important pilgrimage site for Hindus as it is believed to be one of the four "maths" (monasteries) established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century. The town is home to many ancient temples, including the Narasimha Temple, which is dedicated to the fourth avatar of Lord Vishnu, and the Gari Bhawani Temple, which is dedicated to the goddess Gari Bhawani.
