Mirabell Palace was built in 1606 by prince-archbishop Wolf Dietrich. The palace with its gardens is a listed cultural heritage monument and part of the Historic Centre of the City of Salz burg UNESCO World Heritage Site. 
The Mirabell Garden was made according to plans designed by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach in 1687. The Sculptures were created by Italian sculptor Ottavio Mosto from 1690. Several scenes from The Sound of Music were filmed here.
