The common term "morning glory" refers to more than a thousand species of flowering plants in the Convolvulaceae family, whose systematics and taxonomy are now under revision.

Ipomoea purpurea, or morning glory flower, blooms fully in the early morning. Usually, the flowers begin to fade a few hours before the corolla shows any signs of curling.

They favor mesic soils and full sun exposure all day long. Ipomoea muricata, Ipomoea alba, and Ipomoea macrorhiza are a few examples of morning glory plants that bloom at night.
