South America's southern region is home to the tall, erect Tagetes minuta marigold plant, which has tiny flowers and belongs to the genus Tagetes. 

It has spread over the world since Spanish colonization and has naturalized in Europe, Asia, Australasia, North America, and Africa. There are various regional names for Tagetes minuta. 

It goes by the names Huacatay or Wacatay in the Andes and chinchilla, chiquilla, chilca, zuico, suico, or anisillo in other locations. Other names for the plant are black mint, stinking roger, muster John Henry, southern marigold, khakibos, and smelly roger.
