By temporarily disabling your Instagram account, your profile, along with its photos, likes, and comments, will be hidden and they'll stay hidden until you log back in to reactivate your account. Disabling your account is a perfect way to take a bit of a vacation from Instagram. Another option to consider is merely muting a few friends, if that’s your main reason for disabling your account.

Temporarily deactivate your Instagram account from Accounts Center:

  • Log into the Instagram account you’d like to deactivate.
  • Click More in the bottom left, then click Settings.
  • Click Accounts Centre, then click Personal details.
  • Click Account ownership and control, then click Deactivation or deletion.
  • Click the account you'd like to temporarily deactivate.
  • Click Deactivate account, then click Continue.
  • Re-enter your password and click Continue.
  • Select the reason to deactivate account, then click Continue.
  • Click Deactivate account.
The first thing to look for is the profile of the account. If the account has been disabled, the profile will not be visible. This means that you won't be able to see the profile picture, bio, or any posts that have been made. If you are able to see the profile, the account is likely active.

Keep in mind that you can only deactivate your account once a week.
