Laportea canadensis, often known as Canada nettle or wood-nettle, is an annual or perennial herbaceous plant that is indigenous to eastern and central North America and is a member of the nettle family Urticaceae. It grows in exposed forests with moist, rich soils, by streams, and in drainages.
Laportea canadensis can be rhizomatous, forming tiny clusters, and grows from tuberous roots to a height of 30 to 150 cm. On their stems and foliage, plants have both stinging and non-stinging hairs.

Flowers on it are whitish green and appear from spring to early fall. Laportea canadensis, in contrast to its cousin, the common nettle, has alternating leaves. Its leaf also develops most prominently upward on the stalk.
