Yolo app became extremely popular among teens as soon as it was released and achieved 1st position in the USA right after a week. This name stands for you only live once which is a commonly used slang.
This app is used to question and answer in an anonymous Snapchat app. Snapchat users can comment on stories and even ask different questions without revealing their identity.
App Features and Capabilities YOLO made its name far and wide without even a marketing campaign. It is a great way to communicate and get to know your friends more. Some of the features offered are:
• Add an ask me a sticker and customize it: Once you download yolo, it will log in through Snapchat and a bit emoji picture will be used so you can add a sticker of “ask me anything” before uploading your story. Viewers/ friends can then open the yolo app by swiping up and send an anonymous question.
• Reply to anonymous message and Story it: If any of your friends ask you an interesting question, simply answer them on the story with another sticker. The answer is usually replied with a selfie. Yes, it's that easy!
• Share it with Snapchat friends: Yolo gives you the option to share your answers on this question app that were asked from you with friends. If the questions asked are fun-loving, hilarious, random lifestyle questions why not share them?
• Reply privately: The app allows its users to answer privately if they are secretive or the kind in which the user may be uncomfortable sharing publicly on social media. The user gets to choose who to share that answer with.
• Safety feature: In case of personal attacks or abusive content, you can report and block people. The algorithms will pick up abusive responses automatically. Such comments are taken down immediately.
Pros • YOLO is extremely easy to use application for people. The option to answer questions privately and publicly is a great one as the user gets to choose which questions are worthy of posting publicly.
• People are compassionate and kind towards each other, giving positive feedback as they know abusive content is automatically banned which is a great advantage in this case.
• It is a good environment to chat, share pictures and pass your free time nicely.
• The minimum age in the App store was previously 12+ but now it is set to 17+ because of the content. The age for Google play store is 18+ which is a great initiative to protect young minds.
Cons • Unfortunately, not everyone is as respectful as we wish them to be. An anonymous perspective even from an adult can be used widely for arguments, disputes, bullying where teens are affected badly with such feedbacks owing to their poor decision-making skills.
• There is no reporting or identification system which means people cannot be removed from the app.
• The concerning aspect is how the “send me honest messages” is interpreted completely differently and encourages anonymous messages of personal attack. The features are not designed to secure the mental health of children and teens.
Other Information to Know YOLO was a created by Popshow, Inc. on 16th March 2020 which was a French start-up and previously they made an app where people react on funny videos. It received unusual attention from the media without promotion and made it to the top charts of iTunes and Apple store.
It was built on a snap kit platform. As the creator says, Gregoire Henrion that there was no marketing of this app and still made its way above Snapchat on the Apple store. It is compatible with Android devices and iOS.
