Very simply, make sure you have the latest version of Samsung Kies loaded on your PC. This software will sync your device when connected by USB and also check for updates from Samsung. WIll also organise backups etc. Great piece of software everybody should use with their Samsung handset.
If you don't have a Samsung, all the handset manufacturers do their own version.
