Are iOS devices prone to malware and virus?

I am using antivirus program on my Android devices. I am thinking to switch to iPhone. Are ios devices safe from malwares and virus? Some people say iOS is perfectly safe, where as some safe they aren't? What's the truth behind this?

They are not prone to viruz since their system is not as popular with android, and it is safer thanks to its constant updates
