Honestly, (don't laugh) the best coverage is from TracFone. They use all other providers towers. I'd recommend getting a cheap, no-contract TracFone as a backup for dodgy areas and use your main phone when you can. I haven't checked them out, but there are now Android TracFones available. They're worth a look.
