The two operating systems are Apple or Android.
The difference is much like Apple computers or PCs. Apples have a lot of stuff, but only run Apple, whereas Android has the rest of the market.
So while there is a "chic" to having an iPhone, you can get pretty inexpensive phones with excellent apps and more using the Android OS.
