Gurudongmar Lake is a high-altitude lake in the Indian state of Sikkim. It is located in the northeastern part of the state, near the border with Tibet. The lake is situated at an elevation of around 5,425 meters (17,800 feet) above sea level, making it one of the highest lakes in the world. It is named after Guru Padmasambhava, a revered Tibetan Buddhist saint who is said to have visited the lake in the 8th century.
The lake is located in a remote and isolated area, surrounded by snow-capped mountains and glaciers. It is a popular destination for trekkers and hikers, who come to enjoy the stunning natural beauty of the region. The lake is also revered by Buddhists, who consider it to be a sacred site.
Despite its remote location, Gurudongmar Lake is a popular tourist destination, with many visitors coming to see the lake each year. It is accessible by road from the town of Lachung, which is located around 50 kilometers (31 miles) away. The best time to visit the lake is from April to June, when the weather is relatively mild and the roads are open.
