I personally don’t have a contract with a cell carrier, I’ve never liked being in a contract and I try to steer clear of them at all cost. I pay strictly month to month or I use a prepaid plan with a carrier such as T-Mobile. The reason why I don’t like contracts is because in the end you still pay just about the same price, but you’re locked into that contract for 1-2 years and if you have to break the contract you have to eat a very high fee in order to do so. Do you have a contract? If so, why?

When I was a student, I was looking for the same thing as, prepaid independence:)
I got hired to a company, that offered me a phone and a laptop to work and I got used with the idea of postpaid, it`s more comfortable, as I don`t have time to charge every month my credit balance
On the other hand, indeed breaking the contract is something you should avoid, taxes can reach $100 and it`s OK, since you can buy a new phone with this money
