If you are carrying a locked carrier of SFR, then there is a good news for you. SFR has announced free unlocking of iPhone 4 and 5 for their customers.

It is not clear if the service is also applicable on the last released model. If the service is not applicable then one has to shed some 80 euros to get it unlocked from SFR itself.

How I wish to see a similar measure in RomaniaLaugh

For example, if you bought a smartphone from Orange, you are requested to pay 100 EURO as fee necessary for the unlocking, although your subscription has ended and there is no need to pay an extra fee for something that it`s already yours

Yes this is something the telecom companies should look into. Especially when the contract is over, they should give the customers a free of charge unlocking option.

My rationale behind this is that they have already earned their share of profit for the contract period. At the same time, Apple too has recovered its cost. So once this is over, the unlocking should not be a pain in their treasury.

I couldn`t agree more, but not even authorities can force the hand of providers. It seems marketing is beyond customers` interests

Honestly, rather than buying an iPhone in this condition, I would spend more on an unlocked Android gadget
