For those expats travelling to Germany, there can be troubles in getting proper connectivity over the phone. There are quite a few mobile phone service providers in Germany, with the charges and rates being volatile. So its important to choose the right service provider so avail the seamless network throughout the stay in Germany. The best sesrvices are offered by companies like: T-Mobile, Vodafone, O2 and BASE/ E-Plus. However, there are other providers too that can offer good packages. Some of them are 1 & 1, Congstar, Blau.de, Simyo and Fonic. However, you can try Fonic as offers the cheapest rates for calling abroad.

Last time when I travelled to Nurnberg, I could use my national subscription on Vodafone`s network, to talk a little bit with my family, but the costs on my bill were a headache
I heard good things about O2, but I`m not very sure: is it offering prepaid services? I would be interested in using such a service for 30 days, since I don`t stay longer in Germany. The other providers you mentioned are quite unknown to me, probably they are regional brands
