Apparently, Comcast was planning to use the Xfinity routers that they sell to customers, to provide wireless hotspot coverage for smart phones and other devices by Comcast subscribers. A few customers have started a class action lawsuit on the grounds that Comcast has not even asked if they can use the customer’s router to provide this service.

I can see why Comcast would want to do this, it would easily build out their coverage without having significant costs of their own. However, I also see that customers are getting the shorter end of the stick because they’re having to pay for electricity, and potentially have slower internet speeds and security issues as a result of this.

The following users say thank you to Cellnut for this useful post:

Well it happens with me then I also not support it as it will effects on my internet usages and I believe they should ask first to customers before they implement something.

This procedure has to be clearly explained to customers, so that they understand the benefits and disadvantages, in order to avoid any further complaints

It was applied in my country too for few months, as a marketing strategy and the customers accepting it receceived a discount from their monthly bill
