I now have 4 different SIM cards, from four different countries in my backpack, each with leftover minutes on them.  I really need to stop buying so many minutes.  Here in Nicaragua there are two cellular options; Movistar and Claro.  I have a movistar SIM in my phone, mostly because the promotion they were running was pretty good.  The service works well in each city I’ve been too, but tends to fade out once I’m out in the “wilderness”.  The internet here is very sporadic, so I decided to go to Claro for my internet needs.  I bought a USB stick for ~$20, and unlimited 3g internet for $16 a month. I’m loving the service, and suggest it for anyone who needs to be online for any length of time during the day.  The speeds are fast, and it works when the power is out, which is almost every day.  Once the month is up I just pitch the SIM card, and get another unlimited one for the USB stick.  Couldn’t be simpler.

For several months both of my friends used this service and were online most of the day successfully. Even when the power was out….which is often in Nicaragua. I highly recommend this internet option as long as you are not viewing videos on a frequent basis…this eats up too much time.
