In Nicaragua it is fairly inexpensive to buy a basic cell phone. They usually run around $12 and are easy to use. The only exception is if you are are a texting maniac….then it is highly advisable to buy a more expensive smartphone. The basic phones are still old school and you have to pass through each letter before selecting the one you care for. It will take you longer to text then to just call your contact.

I guess this is valid in every part of the world:)
Cheap Nokia or Samsung phones, although are enhanced with reliable battery (I remember my old Samsung phone, which wasn`t a smartphone, would last for 7 days on heavy conversation mode:), will make your finger cry, due to their keyboard. I wouldn`t recommend the hybrid models, Samsung`s series of Chat gadgets, although they roll Android, their built-in qwerty keyboard is a painful challenge for fingers
