In the world of Smart phones Sony has a significant status as the phones introduced by Sony just stand out. This is my personal opinion though but the way they merge various technologies in one device,is simply amazing.

Sony Ericsson is a great manufacturer. I had a Sony and it was great, but that was before the smartphone generation.

However Ihad a issue, and many other users too. The sony phone had a problem with the port for headphones/USB/AC adapter, overtime it started to fail, and you coluld not connect the headphones, USB or connect to charge.

Fortanetely, current Sony phones have a new port, and those issues never happen anymore.

I like to believe I`m a loyal Sony customer, but I found it useful to try different brands. From my perspective, Sony has to work more, to keep its customers satisfied. In my case, when I bought my Xperia Z1 Compact, I imagined the case was made of aluminum or any other resistant material, but unfortunately is designed on plastic. I know that iPhone turned to it and Sony tried to copy this step, but it`s not inspired, Sony was reckoned to be somebody on the market, not a shadow of Apple

Sony recently ditched ericsson and not a moment too soon, the product line since that merger has been diluted down and for those that know Sony has been losing (not just in smartphones) around a billion a year since they recently solved off their PC division (a sad day for owners of Sony Vaios) The sony brand has focused heavily on mobile along with the other billion items they manufacture.

The Xperia Z range (including the 1, s, ultra and compact) has been their best in a long time, the likes of the ones before it the S and F ranges were very average devices with little to shout about however the First Xperia Z struck a clear message my concern with Sony is how quickly they are releasing updates I would like to see them scale back and focus on 4-5 releases at the same time i.e when they release the Z1s they could could have released the rest of the brand at the same time.

Furthermore taking this device out of water it’s 20 megapixel camera needs improvement, under water it’s fantastic, lack of OIS is a bit off too given Sony’s massive experience in the camera game. Lastly the Ultra.. certainly needs to stay as a tablet, remove the mobile radio once and for all .. nobody wants an 8 inch phone!

In terms of build quality you cannot fault Sony of recent, the double glass is a bit much but the device is a great device in terms of build and one day it would be cool to see what they have lined up next.. tho personally I’d go with their nice all white models.

in the past i had an analog and smartphone sony.  and still now for me the best feature they have is the voice reception quality.  though not sure if it is part of the phone unit or because of my service provider.  both in phils and singapore sony as a brand can be considered as the best 3 option for smart phones – along with HTC and LG.

in terms of call and in general mic quality at the moment the Nokia Icon is by far the best, it’s quite a new phone and has an interesting design too to be honest sadly it is a windows based phone but the mics on this thing have won praise everywhere 4 noise cancelling mics around the device..impressive.

I think you need to goto a nokia store and ask to use the Nokia Icon, sony offers some great mics, indeed the Z2 is awesome but the Nokia icon on paper, in reviews and everywhere else due to it’s 3 HIGH QUALITY mics (note 3, most only use 1, sometimes 2) are killing call quality – sony have responses via accessories however.

Sony have produced a modern windows phone for the past 2 years, the modern day sony and even the sony of past do have good mics, they do have some of the worlds best sound engineers so of course great.. nokia however has always been good in this area, but the icon is better than anything they have done before.
