I have bought Sony before but didnt found it as my type. Now from last 4 years i am using Micromax. It has good performance and far better than Samsung mobiles that are been sold in Indian market today.
Have you tried HTC?
I used previously Xperia as you. For me, it was a good line, but HTC is somehow more reliable, with the exception of the battery lifetime
If you want something cheaper, try Motorola Moto G or one of Nokia Lumia models

The XiaoMi is one of the cheapest smartphone on the market. It can match the power of Samsung or Sony. RedMi goes for S$169 while the RedMi Note is $199.

There are some local brands in my country too, but still they aren`t match for Samsung or Sony, despite the attractive price
As I could see the configuration is somehow old-fashioned, a current user needs more than 512MB to do everything he/she proposed, the quality of music is pretty unsatisfactory and games tend to interrupt
