Google has started their initial signups for their Fiber internet service Austin, Texas today. Their deals are amazing, except that you need to pay a $300 installation fee either immediately or over the course of a year.

5mbps/1mbps service, free for 10 years.
1gbit/1gbit for $70 a month.

Reviews have been pretty favorable with Google and I hope they start expanding to more cities in the U.S. Right now it’s for the most part in large metro centers.

More details here

I live in a small town of 60,000 people, so I doubt if it will get to us anytime soon.

But I will monitor their success – or failure – with interest!

I looked up Google Fiber’s website:

https://fiber.google.com/about/

I must say I dislike their website!  Why is it every new website seems to follow this same template? Big ol picture at the top, lots of pictures below, and very little text?

I suppose Google Fiber doesn’t need to worry about SEO, which is a good thing because there’s no way to SEO that page!

Google pages aren’t the most breathtaking things you’ll see, I’ll admit. But their fiber service seems to have fairly raving reviews and it’s tended to cause an economic boost in most areas where it’s been deployed.
