I’ve recently been having some experience with a Nokia Lumia 635 that a family member has. The primary selling point of this device was that it was very affordable and they were a new cell phone user. I have to say that it’s a nice device for what she paid, I believe about $35 at the time. Here’s a few things that I discovered while using it.

  • The windows 8 interface on it can be a bit confusing in comparison to Android and iOS devices I’ve used.
  • The person that owns the phone doesn’t have all that great of eye sight and I was attempting to make the bottom bar icons larger, but no matter what I did, I could not find a way to enlarge them, only the font size. This is unfortunate because the person has trouble locating the ‘dial’ icon at the bottom which is a small box with dots.
  • The phone seems reasonably durable, although time will tell.
  • Brightness and contrast was acceptable.
  • Camera was acceptable for the price range.
  • Touchscreen was very responsive with the operating system.

If it weren’t for the fact that I can’t seem to find a way to increase the icon size to help that person, I’d give the phone a 4/5 for the price range, but until I do I feel I need to give it a 3.

Windows 8 can be confusing, due to the particular size of the apps, they aren`t regular as in Android or iOS, but once you keep using it, it becomes a habit

I found the same troube in customizing apps, practically Windows has to do something about it, they are pretty static

Personally, I don`t get satisfied with 5MP camera, since right now I`m using an Android model with 20 MP camera
