On Android and iPhone, you can turn on the chat lock feature to password protect your most personal chats. In order to read or send messages, you’ll need to unlock your chats using device authentication, such as your phone passcode, Face ID or fingerprint. These chats will be kept separate from your other chats in a Locked chats fold

WhatsApp rolled out the new Chat Lock feature for everyone and it is now visible on a user’s profile section. The new update lets anyone put a lock to specific WhatsApp chats, which no one will be able to check out. This feature would be helpful in times when you need to hand over the device to a stranger for some work and you don’t want that person to read your personal chats.

The new WhatsApp Chat Lock option also automatically hides the contents of the chat in notifications too, which means that your privacy is protected. The platform notifies about the new messages from locked chats by just saying you have a new message from a chat. But, when you open the app, you don’t see the new message because it is hidden in the Locked folder. Hence, your privacy is protected.

When chats are locked, the notification content and contact are hidden. The notification will show as WhatsApp: 1 new message. To help keep media private, you’ll have to turn chat lock off to save media to your phone’s gallery. Group chats and muted chats can also be locked. Calls won’t be locked. A call from a locked chat contact or group will still appear.
