The popular tropical fruit guava is grown throughout many tropical and subtropical areas. The common guava, Psidium guajava (also known as the lemon guava or apple guava), is a small tree that is native to Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and northern South America.
It belongs to the Myrtaceae family of plants. The term guava is also given to certain other species in the genus Psidium such as strawberry guava (Psidium cattleyanum) and to the pineapple guava, Feijoa sellowiana.
Guava production reached 55 million tonnes in 2019, with India accounting for 45% of the total. Guavas are berries in the world of plants.
