With iOS 16, Apple introduced the ability to copy a subject from a photo background that could be a person or object. This feature is an enhancement to Visual Look Up capability for photos. You can use this feature in Photos, Screenshot, Quick Look, Safari, and more on iPhone with A12 Bionic and later.

  1. To use this feature on a photo from your iPhone, open Photos app.
  2. Open a picture in your camera roll with a subject that you want to separate from the background. Subject could be a person, animal, or a clearly-defined object.
  3. Long press on the subject and you will see a white border, identifying your subject.
  4. From here, tap either Copy or Share. Open an app that supports images, such as Messages, Mail, or Notes to paste the separated image. You can also drag and drop the image into the app directly.
