The bust of Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi (1924–2020), Kenya's second president from 1978 to 2002, is depicted on the front of the 5 Kenyan Shilling coin. The National Coat of Arms is depicted on the reverse of the coin.
It consists of two lions holding spears, a traditional East African shield bearing the flag's colors, and a rooster holding an axe. Agricultural items from Kenya are represented at the base of the image, including coffee, pyrethrum, sisal, tea, corn, and pineapples.
The issuance date, denomination, and motto are all written as Harambee (pulling together or all for one). This coin is a member of the 1995–1997 series, has a fluted rim, and is gold and silver in color.
