Mulching is a farming technique used to prevent crops from drying up by conserving soil moisture. It includes adding organic or inorganic material above the soil to prevent soil moisture from escaping as vapour.
It is mostly used in dry seasons or areas with dry soils and low rain ranges or for nursery farming. Mulching does not only help in moisture conservation but also acts as manure when decomposed and prevents weeds.
The photographed is an example of an organic mulch using banana leaves.
