The scented annual plant Phacelia fremontii has a branched decumbent or erect stem up to 30 centimeters long. It is hairy and glandular along the direction of the inflorescence.
The leaves are 15-50 millimetres (0.6-2.0 in) long and strongly lobed or divided into spherical leaflets. Calyx lobes are 3-5 millimeters (0.12-0.20 in) long, linear to oblanceolate in shape, and covered in short glandular hairs.
The corolla is funnel- or bell-shaped and can grow to be 1.5 to 2 cm long. It has a blue, pink, or purple body and a yellow throat. The plant thrives in a variety of habitats, including scrub and grassland, on sandy or gravelly soils.
