Did it start with iPhone 1?

Did the Apple phone manufacturers start with iPhone 1 as the first generation of its phone products

Hi there,

Apple has invented the iphone back in 2005 and the first phone called Ist generation. It did not call as iPhone 1 then 2 and 3.

After iPhone 1st generation, the model directly goes to iPhone 3G, 3GS and so on until now iPhone 7.
