Facebook automatically shows some people you may know by sending them friend request.
If you want to remove someone from that list then do these steps.
At the top bar there is a symbol showing persons. Click on it.
When you click on it you can see all the persons that facebook are showing to get you know. If you want to remove someone from that list the simple click the renove button placed at that row.
