So, There is only one way to hide whatsapp status as per me and that is as follows :
-Goto Whatsapp Settings
-Click on 'Account'
-Click on 'Privacy'
-There you can change your 'status' setting to Nobody.
Or if you want the status to be hidden from anyone specific then you can set it as 'my contacts' and delete the specific person's saved contact details, that way you can chat with that person but he/she wont be able to see it as his/her name is not saved in your contacts.
