Samsung Galaxy S5 group text issues?

So, during a group text message in the default messaging app, I unchecked the group check box because I thought that's how I could send back to just the original sender, and it sent to everyone still. Does anyone know what that function is supposed to do?

The Galaxy S5 Group Messaging feature allows you to creategroups of people you want to text right within your Contacts interface. Simply go to your phone's Contacts app, and select the “people” icon to the left of the search bar. Save the groupto your device and to your Google account.
