A species of pelagic, freshwater ray-finned fish from East Africa, the silver cyprinid (Rastrineobola argentea) is also known as the Lake Victoria sardine, mukene, and omena (local language), and dagaa (swahili language). It is the sole species of Rastrineobola.

It is a little silvery fish that can reach a length of 9 cm and has a body that is highly compressed, covered in big scales with a pearlescent sheen and a yellow tail (3.5 in).

The lateral line begins below the body's middle and extends to the caudal peduncle's lower portion. Delicate suborbital bones cover the cheek.
