You can buy United in-flight WiFi basic package for email and web browsing. Although it says only for basic internet browsing, could listen to streaming music and view online photos without any issues. When tried with video streaming, it took a while to download and also got interrupted while playing. Package purchase option has 3 levels of duration.

United offers convenient ways to purchase the WiFi either using credit card or United miles. It just took less than a min to close the purchase and get online. Once to start to use the service, usage time can be tracked real time on the United web site by logging into your account.

United advertised to have access to the on board entertainment using United app when WiFi is purchased. Unfortunately for this particular flight no entertainment is available, so make sure to confirm this before purchasing if your intent to use the app for watching movies.
