Varanasi Sandhya Arati

Varanasi Sandhya Aarti is a religious ceremony that takes place on the banks of the river Ganges in the holy city of Varanasi, India. It is a Hindu ritual performed every evening at the famous Dashashwamedh Ghat to offer prayers to Lord Shiva, River Ganga, and other deities. The word "Sandhya" means evening, and "Aarti" refers to the traditional Hindu practice of worshipping a deity with a lit lamp.

The ceremony takes place at sunset, just after the evening bath of the river Ganges. Priests, accompanied by musicians and singers, light lamps and incense sticks, and perform various rituals to offer prayers to the deities. The aarti is a visually stunning sight, as hundreds of lamps are lit and waved in a rhythmic motion, creating a mesmerizing effect.
