A popular tropical fruit, guava is grown throughout many tropical and subtropical climates. Psidium guajava, often known as the common guava, apple guava, or lemon guava, is a tiny tree that is indigenous to Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and northern South America.
It belongs to the myrtle family, Myrtaceae. Other species in the Psidium genus, such as the pineapple guava (Feijoa sellowiana) and the strawberry guava (Psidium cattleyanum), are also referred to as guavas.
India accounted for 45% of the global guava production in 2019, with a total of 55 million tonnes produced. In terms of botany, guavas are berries.
