Blackberry fans should be happy, the Pentagon has ordered Blackberry for 80,000 new handsets for use on a new network. Blackberry has for the longest time been a stable of goverment based handsets and the news managed to push BB’s shares to the highest they have been in a long time. Goverment bailouts will not be enough to save blackberry in the long run unless they scale back even further.

Blackberry need something that’s a hit in the consumer space but this does give them a stepping stone to build upon.

told you!  blackberry units still has market for corporate accounts.  agree that personal buyers wont consider buying blackberry, don’t underestimate the sales related to company-issued mobile.  plus not goverment entitiy as well.

just wish they will come up with some innovation to make their products appealing to the public market as well.

confirmed information that some leading BPO and call center companies in the Philippines have existing tie-up with Blackberry to handle their corporate mobile unit.  Sitel and Accenture are some, aside from what I earlier mentioned about HSBC data processing.

Stock going up due to investment doesnt last, blackberry still needs to cement itself or lose more staff via layoffs – HTC are in the same boat and they are doing a whole lot right and very little wrong.. consumers rule the world…

yup, massive continous layoff is sad.  RIM can’t catch up.  i guess if they are agressive enough to hire the right significant people, blackberry as a preferred consumer brand can be possible.  but till now, blackberry business management is still very conservative and traditional with their approach.

Blackberry could easily make a few billion, just sell of their patent portfolio with a free license back to themselves but they could easily roll in about 5-6 billion in cash for that but short term gain long term loss.
