AT&T is I believe, the second largest carrier in the USA right now. I’ve had about three years of experience with their cell service with an IPhone. I have to admit, I do live a bit rural, so this may not be the best information for someone in a dense metro.

AT&T’s coverage map states that my area has complete and full coverage, yet it’s rare that you’ll get more than 1 point of signal strength. It’s not until I’m almost inside one of the nearby cities that I actually get coverage (and where I spend the most of my time using the cell service anyways). I’m not overly upset that they don’t have coverage where I live, but more so that I don’t like that they state that they ‘do’ have coverage where I live, when they clearly do not.

Besides that, AT&T service itself is generally alright. I’ve had no major outages with my phone service and bills have been handled correctly for the most part. However, whenever I’ve had to have interactions with AT&T customer service staff at various retail outlets, I’ve generally had extremely poor service, and it’s not really the staff that’s the problem. The problem is that the retail customer service staff has little, to no control over your Cell Service and they cannot trouble shoot any problems. For that you have to call their support center, which is usually housed in India or some other country.

Overall I’d rate the service itself 7/10, and AT&Ts corporate structure and method of doing things, 3/10.

If I had to rate the service of At&T itself, I would probably give them a 10/10! I have never had issues with them whatsoever regarding service and coverage. However, I do agree with you when you say their service is poor. The retailers have minimal control over your cell service like you said so they usually are unable to help you right away.
