I don’t know about elsewhere, but in the United States, we have a lot of discussion going on about Net Neutrality and increasing government regulation. The Internet used to be much more open here but as corporations and government seek more control over the flow of information, it’s becoming less ideal for the Internet and it’s flow of information to remain deregulated. This was a very interesting read for me today and it sort of summarizes some of the events this year that increased the control that companies or government have over the Internet.

What does the citizen of the US think about this new increase of internet regulation? I don’t think they are happy about it.

In general most consumers in the US are still not educated enough on how the Internet works, nor how more control on it will limit their choices, or possibly censor their speech online. I hope that changes in the near future before too much government regulation takes hold.

The same goes in Europe, internet is perceived as a completely free space, like an agora when everybody says everything in any way, which isn`t like this. Companies and public institutions are interested about what are we doing on internet, some in a more discreet way, others bumping in your private virtual space

To a certain degree, I agree with additinal regulations. In Europe there was a majot scandal about the way Google manipulates personal data and I had the unpleasant surprise to discover an information that I chose as confidential to be publicly displayed. As consequence, I support the idea of forcing companies in this area to improve the protection of personal data

OUr personal data and whereabouts are collected by Facebook, Google, Foursquare, Apple and etc. It jsut depend on how these companies will protect our data. If their system are hack, then you will know the consequences.

The possibility of hacking is imminent and those companies are aware of it

The big issue is where their experts are more clever than hackers. Ironically, some of them hire ex-hackers, to make sure they are fully protected
