I saw not too long ago a few restaurants allowing people to make reservations using their app, or mobile version of their website. While I don’t personally do fine dining myself, it does seem like a logical use to use a smart phone.

Why call, or visit the restaurant to make a reservation when you can simply order it on your phone and not deal with the hassle?

Honestly, the only reason I can see for calling for a reservation is that you actually speak with a human. That way if for some reason you show up and your reservation isn’t ready, you at least have the back-up of the name of whom you spoke with. I’m sure app reservations work extremely well for the better restaurants who have embraced tech, but I would be very wary of making app reservations for a smaller place or one that just started using the app.

Like what MagStar said above, this kind of app might just be used by high end restaurants (or big company owned). These restaurants need to pay for such apps to be made and implemented properly (not to mention its maintenance), so small restaurants might steer clear of doing the same. Yes, it can be easier to make reservations at the touch of your fingers on your phone apps, but remember, it will still depend on availability whether you’d make the reservations or not. At least being able to talk to someone working in the reception/booking reservations are better because you’d be able to get more information that you’d want.

I don’t use this technique but our local area restaurant does not no mobile version website. I think manually is better way.
