The FCC has increased the minimum requirement that they’ll allow subsidy funding for rural broadband initiatives. Internet providers will now have to provide at least 10mbps downstream in order to qualify for the federal subsidies that are associated with rural broadband buildouts. Article is here

This is a really good change in my opinion, a lot of people in rural areas in the ‘States get shafted pretty harshly by internet providers. Sometimes the only thing you can get is 1.5mbps for $40 or so a month.

I want to see a similar measure implemented in Europe too

There are rural areas, where you can even get enough signal to make call, to browse internet is only a dream

Naturally, landscape is difficult, even in my country the mountains are a big disadvantage, still solutions can be found so that more customers can benefit of improved services
