First thing to do is stop shortcuts being added to the home screen automatically when a new app is downloaded. You can do this by deleting the app from home screen or by turning off the Android's automatic shortcut feature.
The other thing to do is to use folders where by you create App folders on home screen by long pressing on an App and drag it on top of another app. You can add as may Apps on that folder and this will keep your phone neat.
